Also called Hiwa Kai, these salt crystals are enriched with a natural mineral called “alae” – a volcanic baked red clay that gives the salt its distinctive red color. It has a subtle earthy flavor and adds an grainy texture to food. Alaea Hawaiian sea salt is harvested from salt farms on the smallest Hawaiian island of Molokai. There is virtually little to no industry on this tiny island, which translates into clean water, soil and air — making Alaea sea salt one of the purest and finest of all sea salts. This sea salt is used in most of the traditional Hawaiian dishes, such as Kalua pig and Hawaiian jerky; it works extremely well with beef and pork dishes.

FAQ
How old are these spices?
We purchase what we need every year right after the spices are harvested. These spices are as fresh as you can get. They are not sitting in a warehouse for multiple years. The oldest spices we carry will be one year old compared to the commodity market which warehouses spices for 10+ years before selling them to you.
Are these spices certified organic?
Unfortunately we do not have any certifications at this time but most of our spices are organically grown and all of them are non gmo. Each ingredient can be traced back to its origin. Email support@spicetribe.com for any questions.
